Asbestos minerals have been used in the manufacturing of over 3000 different products over many decades. Everything from industrial insulations to products as common as floor tile, linoleum, and automobile brake linings. If a building in the United States was built prior to 1978, there is a possibility that it does, or at one time contained a material that had asbestos in it. Even in some cases buildings built after 1978 have been found to have asbestos containing materials in them. This was do to older building materials being used in the construction or materials being imported from countries that still do not highly regulate asbestos.
With over 20 years experience in identifying asbestos containing materials, air testing, asbestos abatement management, and asbestos awareness training, we decided to launch THE ASBESTOS HOTLINE.
We found throughout the years that some people who have worked around asbestos containing materials in schools, commercial buildings and general industry, have at one time or another, been through an asbestos awareness training course. The vast majority of the people in the USA however, still know very little about asbestos.
We also found that a lot of these people had only minimal knowledge about it and some had a lot of misconceptions. We have developed an online tutorial "About Asbestos" right here on TheAsbestosHotline.com.
This tutorial was taken from part of the online asbestos awareness training course we developed for school systems and other employers, and made it available to the general public here, absolutely free. This gives you general information about asbestos such as: History on Asbestos, Characteristics of Asbestos, Uses of Asbestos, Health Effects of asbestos Exposure, and more useful facts and information.
Our goal is to not to make anyone an expert on asbestos, but to provide some general facts that a lot of people had no easy way of obtaining.
